Music Video Genre's (Performance, Narrative, Concept)

In this lesson we looked at Music Videos from through the ages looking at the first ever music video which was "Video killed the radio star" by Buggles and going all the way through the the video for "Telephone" by Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

We concluded that there are three main types of music videos...
-Performance
-Narrative
-Concept

Coldplay- Up and Up
This is a concept music video. The video consists of abstract sequences of different cultures and moments from history curated together in an artistic way to portray the world's quest to become a better place, the lyrics "We're gonna get it, get it together somehow" mirror the iconography of this video.

Ed Sheeran- A Team
This is a a narrative music video. This song is based on the narrative of a young women who has been forced into prostitution to aid her drug addiction. The video matches this story and follows her story throughout one night.

Catfish and the Bottlemen- Soundcheck
This is a performance music video. This is a typical low budget music video which is typical of a band who is still 'finding there feet' and making a name for themselves. This is also typical of a heavy rock band. The video is quite dark and moody and displays the band members playing together in a dark space.
